Diesel Emissions Testing

What Is It?

We use the SMOKE CHECK 1667 which is the unit that the governments of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ontario (Canada), Pennsylvania & Vermont use in their random tests.

Who Should Be Tested?

If you drive through California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, and Ontario (Canada),

All Diesel trucks are subject to random roadside testing - even trucks with USDOT numbers.

Why Get Tested?

Did you know that you could be fined between $800 and $10,000 if you fail a random emissions test?

The State of California Enforcement:

  • $800 for the first offense.
  • $1,800 for the second and each subsequent offense.
  • For the third violation in 12 months, the vehicle may be taken out of service.

When To Get Tested?

The California Air Resource Board is visiting fleets to check the fleet's records to ensure that they are testing their vehicles yearly. Fleets MUST do yearly tests!
